The Department  formulates and reviews policies and legislation on Green Economy and Climate Change. It is also responsible for programmes and projects that to promote investment in economic activities that are low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive.

The department is responsible for the following specific functions:

• Formulation and review of policies and legislation on Green Economy and climate change;
• Promote climate resilience and green economy methods through investments in low carbon and resource efficient economic activities;
• Promote investments in low carbon and resource efficient economic activities;
• Collaborate with sector Ministries on the development and implementation of Green Investment and Climate Resilient programmes and projects;
• Promote and coordinate bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation in natural Green Economy and Climate Change in order to promote Zambia’s interest and meet international obligations.
