His Excellency, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia during his opening address to the First Session of the Thirteenth National Assembly on 10th September, 2021 created the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment to champion Zambia’s transitioning to a green growth pathway. Through his visionary leadership, government established a new pillar on Environmental Sustainability in the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP) for the period 2022 to 2026.
The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment’s vision is: “A Smart Green Economy and Sustainable Environment.
The Ministry has set itself a Mission statement: “To ensure the protection and conservation of the environment for a Climate Smart and Green Economy”.
The Ministry of Green Economy and Environment is mandated to promote the effective and sustainable use of the environment, while at the same time, facilitating support for adaptation to, and mitigation of the effects of climate change.
