CHILDREN & YOUTH

ADAPTATION & MITIGATION

Nurturing Tomorrow’s Climate Leaders.

Climate change is no longer a distant threat; it is a daily crisis unfolding in villages, schools, homes, and communities across Zambia. At the heart of this crisis are children—silent and innocent victims of a problem they did not create. Their lives are being disrupted by droughts, floods, extreme heat, and the destruction of the natural resources they depend on to live and learn.

Despite being among the most affected, children remain largely overlooked in national decision-making processes. In response, Save the Children, with funding support from the Embassy of Ireland and in partnership with Keepers Zambia Foundation and Environment Africa, has supported the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment (MGEE) in developing a child-friendly website. This national platform allows children and youth to share their experiences with climate change and raise their voices for meaningful action.

This initiative is part of the Children and Youth Climate Resilience and Nutrition Project, implemented between 2023 and 2025 by Save the Children International (SCI) Zambia and its partners. Funded by the Embassy of Ireland, the project seeks to enhance climate change education and awareness among girls, boys, and youth, empowering them to respond effectively to its impacts across the country. It also aims to improve the nutritional status and school attendance of 4,914 school-going children through supplementary school feeding, while strengthening community resilience to climate change among 2,000 women and youth in food-insecure districts of Gwembe and Sinazongwe in the Southern Province, and Sesheke and Sioma in the Western Province.
